It’s not every day you hear a rock band use a piano as its central instrument, but, then again, The Fray isn’t your average rock band. Often compared to acts like Coldplay and OneRepublic, The Fray is the kind of group that excels in writing mid-tempo pop-rock songs and power ballads, as illustrated by the massive radio and chart success of singles like “You Found Me,” “Never Say Never” and “Over My Head (Cable Car).”
Lead singer/songwriter Isaac Slade has never been afraid to express his innermost feelings in his music, but he really tapped deep into himself for the 2012 album Scars & Stories. “The first and second records were good, but they were 100 percent honest maybe about 75 percent of the time,” Slade admitted to The Denver Post upon the LP’s release. “I was racing between being a nice guy and falling apart inside. So in a way this record's like a, ‘Hello.’ I'm naked up there. It's who I really am with all my scars and everything. I'm OK with that.” The band’s quest to produce authentic and heartfelt pop-rock songs continues on their latest album, Helios, which came out earlier this year, and can be heard on singles like “Love Don’t Die” and “Hold My Hand.”
