Everyone has seen the movie Old School: a timeless comedy classic, loaded with memorable quotes, unforgettable moments, and rib-splitting fits of laughter.
Towards the beginning of the movie, during the wedding reception of one of the main characters, a wedding band covers the 1973 Styx song “Lady.” The lead singer quickly goes off the cuff, throwing in his own vulgar lyrics and drawing some sideway glances from various guests of the wedding. It’s an uproarious moment in the film, and a primary reason people still talk about Old School with such reverence to this day.
Those who loved that movie, and that scene, will be thrilled to know that that wedding band isn’t fictional. They’re real. They go on tour. And they’re called The Dan Band, a comedy group from Los Angeles that’s headlined by actor Dan Finnerty.
A Band Unlike Any Other
On top of Old School, The Dan Band has appeared in several other movies, including Starsky & Hutch, The Hangover, and The Terminal. They primarily cover songs (like “Lady” and “Feel Like Making Love”), but have also written and recorded their own Christmas album of original music called Ho: A Dan Band Xmas.
They also filmed a one hour concert special that was executive produced by Stephen Spielberg and featured on the Bravo Network.
