At nearly 70 years old, British singer/songwriter Bryan Ferry is no less the dapper gentleman he was when he first started serenading audiences in the swinging ’70s with his first band, Roxy Music, who are widely considered one of the most influential new-wave bands of all time. Hit singles like “Avalon,” “Love Is The Drug” and “More Than This”—which has been famously covered by everyone from 10,000 Maniacs to Blondie to Norah Jones—combined with Ferry’s suave vocals made the band a must-listen for rock fans everywhere. After the 1982 release of Roxy Music’s eighth—and final—album, Avalon, Ferry promoted the LP until the band broke up a year later and he went on to have a lucrative solo, boosted by the success of 1985’s Boys And Girls, featuring the hit single “Slave To Love.” Over the next two decades, Ferry would go on to release eight more solo albums, while Roxy Music has reformed and disbanded numerous times. The most recent reunion was in 2011 in celebration of the band’s 40th anniversary. (They performed seven shows around the U.K. as part of the “For Your Pleasure” tour.) No word on whether the band plans to reunite again any time soon, but Ferry isn’t sweating it; he recently played the hipster-approved Coachella Valley Arts And Music Festival this past April in Indio, California, and is busy touring around the world up until the end of the year.
