The core members of ZZ Top might look like a pair of long-bearded Bobbsey Twins, but it turns out that these rock ’n’ roll rebels are not related. Though, since the pair—vocalist/guitarist Billy Gibbons and bassist/vocalist Dusty Hill—formed the band in 1969, they have definitely spent enough time together to call one another family. Not only is the band known for their signature style, but ZZ Top were one of the first groups to really take advantage of short-form videos when MTV opened it’s small-screen doors in 1981. Their seductive clips for songs like “Sharped Dressed Man” and “Legs” practically set the bar for music videos and have often been imitated, but never duplicated.
With an all-American sound that blended blues and hard rock, ZZ Top has continually released records that not only top the charts—like 1983’s Eliminator and 1990’s Recycler—but also push the limits of rock. In 2004, the band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and the group hasn’t slowed down since. How many other bands can say the same, especially boasting the same lineup for over 40 years? “You can't lose with the blues,” Gibbons told ClassicRockRevisited.com in 2013. “We fell into a groove at the start and we just kept at it and have no intention of letting go now that we're staring to get good at it.” Save on every ZZ Top ticket, every day.
