Playing their home games at the Kohl Center in front of one of the most intimidating student bodies in the nation, the University of Wisconsin is among the NCAA’s most consistent basketball programs of the last two decades. With coaches Dick Bennett and then Bo Ryan leading the way, the Badgers have made an incredible 15 straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
A Model of Success
After leading Wisconsin-Green Bay to prominence from 1985-95, head coach Dick Bennett took over in Madison and breathed life into a program that had been to the Big Dance just once since 1947. In 2000, Bennett led his 8-seed Badgers on an astonishing run all the way to the Final Four, losing to eventual the National Champs, the Michigan State Spartans.
Current head coach Bo Ryan took over the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2001-02 season and in his first year, the Bbadgers won a share of the Big Ten Conference Championship for the first time since 1947. Ryan has since won three Big Ten Conference titles, which has him tied for the second-most in school history and just one short of Walter Meanwell’s record (who coached the team to an astonishing 92-9 record from 1911-1917).
With Josh Gasser back from injury and running the point and yet another top recruiting class in, Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers figure to be right back in the thick of things in the loaded Big Ten in 2013-14 season.
