Given the chance to see a game (with guaranteed savings from ScoreBig) in Blacksburg – you GO. Lane Stadium is one of THE best places to watch a sporting event on Earth. Seriously. Get there. Hokie Spirit From epic pre-game tailgating to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”-driven team introductions to the frenzied game-time atmosphere, there’s nothing like a Virginia Tech home game… While the proceedings are decidedly more spectacular today than they were when the Hokies first took the field in 1892. For one thing, they weren’t called the Hokies yet. For another, the school was known as the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. (Plus, research indicates “Enter Sandman” hadn’t been released yet.) Though they reached their first Bowl Game in 1946 and won two South Atlantic Conference Championships before 1920, the Hokies were a relative unknown on the national landscape until they 1980s. Earning their first Bowl win in 1986’s Peach Bowl over the North Carolina State Wolfpack, the Virginia Tech Hokies currently have one of the longest consecutive Bowl Game streaks in the country. Beamberball Since taking over the program at Virginia Tech in 1987, Frank Beamer has established himself as one of the icons of the college game. With a signature style known as “Beamerball” which emphasizes high-intensity special teams play, the Hokies have earned Bowl Game bids every year since 1993 – an absolutely astonishing feat. While there’s been no shortage of success during Beamer’s reign at Virginia Tech, the 1999 season was the program’s modern high point. With NFL star Michael Vick running the offense, the Hokies went 11-0 on the season and went up against the Florida State Seminoles for the National Championship. Though the Hokies put up a good fight, FSU won the title. Save on an Unforgettable Hokie Experience Though the ACC boasts a couple of National Title contenders in Clemson and Miami, Frank Beamer and the Hokies always find a way to get into the mix. With a rebuilt coaching staff and Quarterback with huge potential (Logan Thomas), the Hokies look to rebound from a down year by their standards. Loaded with talent and spurred on by a bitter taste in their mouths, it’s all systems go in Blacksburg.
