The new era begins in Salt Lake City. Built around young stars with MASSIVE potential, the Utah Jazz are on the rise. The Jazz will be one of the most exciting teams in the NBA. Here’s why.
Stockton to Malone
Though a decade has passed since they patrolled the court together, John Stockton and Karl Malone are surely as synonymous with the Utah Jazz as any tandem in sports history. At the heart of the Jerry Sloane-coached teams of the 90s, Stockton and Malone led the Jazz on a dominating, decade-long run capped by two consecutive Finals appearances, both losses to Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls.
Following the 2003 NBA season, John Stockton retired and Karl Malone signed with the Los Angeles Lakers and a new era began for the Utah Jazz. Drafting Deron Williams with the #3 overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft, the Jazz landed a worthy successor to Hall of Famer Stockton. With Carlos Boozer, Paul Milsap and Mehmet Okur down low, the Jazz were a contender once again and made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals where they lost to their longtime rivals, the San Antonio Spurs.
In the middle of the 2011 season, the Jazz parted ways with Deron Williams and the legendary Jerry Sloane resigned thus initiating the rebuilding process that should begin to bear fruit in 2013-14.
2013-14
In the off-season heading into the 2013-14 season, the Utah Jazz opted not to re-sign several productive vets while continuing to build around the young talent. Paul Millsap, Mo Williams and Al Jefferson are out in favor of an insane amount (and yes, that's a technical term) of young, explosive prospects. With Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward and Enes Kanter already beginning to establish themselves in the pros, the Jazz will also feature rookies Rudy Gobert and reigning NCAA Wooden Award winner Trey Burke.
Ball Night in SLC
Sharing the rabid Utah fan base with just one other professional team, Real Salt Lake, the Jazz are an enormous source of pride in Salt Lake and beyond. Playing their home games at EnergySolutions Arena, the Jazz enjoy some of the best fan support in the league. See for yourself with ScoreBig, where you can save on every ticket, every day.
