A brand new era dawns over Southern California as the Trojans welcome in Andy Enfield as head coach. Known for the electrifying, above-the-rim style that made little known Florida Gulf Coast the talk of the nation and propelled them all the way to the Sweet 16, Enfield has USC Trojan fans giddy with the prospect that LA is the new “Dunk City.”
It hasn’t always been easy for the USC Trojans basketball team – playing in the shadow of their wildly successful football program and a cross-town rival, UCLA, which boasts one of college basketball’s all-time great traditions. But with a gorgeous downtown arena, a red-hot coach and everything to prove, all eyes are on the USC Trojans in 2013-14.
A Program on the Rise
The Trojans compete in the Pac-12 conference, which, in addition to UCLA, features perennial powerhouses including the University of Arizona, the University of Oregon, Stanford, and the upstart Colorado Buffaloes.
Despite heavy competition in the West, USC has had more than its share of basketball success with sixteen appearances in the NCAA Tournament, two Final Fours and dozens of All Americans. Look around the NBA today and you’ll find former USC stars Taj Gibson, OJ Mayo, Nick Young, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic.
