No college basketball team has been more successful than the UCLA Bruins. Building an unsurpassable dynasty under the legendary John Wooden, the Bruins won an astonishing 10 National Championships between 1964 and 1975. Adding another championship in the 1994-95 season, the UCLA Bruins basketball program has also appeared in a record 18 Final Fours including three since 2006.
Coach Wooden, who became known as the “Wizard of Westwood” for his massive achievements and influence over the game, embodies the spirit of the UCLA Bruins. In addition to his unbreakable records on the court, Wooden was a profoundly influential teacher to his recruits who include legendary players Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Jamaal Wilkes, Sidney Wicks, and Gail Goodrich.
After Wooden, UCLA Rebuilt its Legacy
Once Wooden left the program in 1975, UCLA struggled to dominate quite like they did during that astonishing era, but they have still managed to recruit some of the most talented prospects in the world.
Reggie Miller, arguably the best shooter in the history of basketball, was a Bruin. And more recently, NBA stars like Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, Arron Afflalo, Matt Barnes, and Darren Collison have worn the UCLA Blue and Gold.
