Hailing from Amityville, NY, Taking Back Sunday has maintained the attention of listeners for over thirteen years. Their first album, Tell All Your Friends, was released in 2002 and set a good precedent of what was to come for this alternative rock/pop band. Their hit single “You’re So Last Summer” remains a classic of this genre even today. With members moving to and from other bands like Straylight Run and Brand New, we can expect their performances to be top-notch and packed with talent.
If you’ve been a Taking Back Sunday fan from the beginning, you may be aware of the somewhat dramatic situation that arose between John Nolan of TBS and Jesse Lacey of Brand New. The two bands have historically rivaled to score top spot in their genre, with Taking Back Sunday’s hit “There’s No ‘I’ In Team” and Brand New’s “Seventy Times Seven” having been written for each other. Their commercial success came in 2006 with album Louder Now, including “Liar (It Takes One to Know One)” and “MakeDamnSure”, the latter having peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard top 200. Tours with Brand New, Blink 182, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Bayside have proven their songwriting abilities and edgy but upbeat sound. If you missed their 10th Anniversary tour of Tell All Your Friends in 2012, don’t miss this next one. They’ve got a new album out now titled Happiness Is… with singles “Stood a Chance” and “All The Way”, and will be joined with Bert McCracken and others in The Used.
