When most people think of musicals, they think of jazz hands, cheesy show tunes, and old-timey kitsch. Fortunately, for all you rockers, who can’t stand ol’ fashioned musical quirk, there’s a show perfectly suited for you. Rock of Ages is a celebration of 80’s classic rock warped into a head-banging, totally rockin’ musical sensation.
The Playlist
Rock of Ages features classic rock favorites from iconic artists Journey, Styx, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison, and Europe, among many others. Crowd favorites include “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “The Final Coundown,” and the closing, “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Sounds like a high school mixed tape, right?
The Scene
Rock of Ages takes place on Los Angeles’ gritty and jiving Sunset Strip. The narrative follows Drew, a boy from South Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl – sound familiar? – who seek romance and fame in the heart of Hollywood. According to the official Rock of Ages site, “Rock of Ages takes you back to the times of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair!”
