Believe it or not, it’s been 20 years since the release of Smash, the breakthrough album by SoCal punkers The Offspring, which has sold over 12 million copies, making it the top-selling independent album of all time. In celebration of the momentous event, the band is re-issuing a special 20-year-anniversary edition of the record, complete with re-mastered recordings, pins, patches and replica backstage passes. “Up until Smash I was a janitor. Head custodian at Earl Warren Elementary School,” guitarist Noodles said to RollingStone.com in April 2014, recalling the album’s initial success two decades earlier. “Actually, when Smash came out I was still there. The record was released in April and I didn't quit until the middle of June. I promised my boss I would finish out the school year! We had a song on the radio in heavy rotation and I was still sweeping up after little kids.”
Later this summer, The Offspring will also be hitting the road with the Summer Nationals Tour, featuring fellow punk legends Bad Religion, Pennywise, Stiff Little Fingers and The Vandals, all of which performed together back in 1994 at the Hollywood Palladium. If that wasn’t big enough of a treat for fans, The Offspring will also be performing Smash in its entirety for the first time ever. The band will play other songs from their extensive discography, too, but that means you’re definitely going to hear hits like “Self Esteem,” “Come Out And Play” and “Gotta Get Away.” It’s never too early to start practicing vocal exercises because those shows are going to be one big audience sing-along. And ScoreBig will get you there for less. You’ll save on every Offspring ticket, every day.
