In 2009, fans were gutted when Nine Inch Nails centerpiece Trent Reznor announced the legendary industrial band would be going on hiatus for an unknown period of time. “I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while,” Reznor wrote on the band’s site. “[2008’s] ‘Lights in the Sky’ tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production.” After hanging up his microphone, albeit temporarily, Reznor concentrated on other projects, like composing music for movies (The Social Network, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and video games (Call Of Duty: Black Ops II). However, Nine Inch Nails couldn’t be muzzled for long. Three years after the initial announcement, Reznor spent much of 2012 writing new music for the band, which culminated in the band’s eighth studio album, Hesitation Marks, released in August 2013.
