Miami Heat vs. Sacramento Kings
Back to Results
Heading into the 2013-14 season, the Miami Heat are two-time defending NBA champs are, without a doubt, the best team in basketball. With three of the league’s top players including the best player on Earth (LeBron James), the Heat are loaded once again this season as they bring back playoffs hero Ray Allen, Chris “Birdman” Andersen, Mario Chalmers and Rashard Jennings. If there was one weakness on the team last season, it was a lack of a dominant big man on the defensive end. In order to solve that problem the Heat signed former #1 overall pick Greg Oden to a low-risk/high reward one-year deal. If Oden can get on the court and provide some quality minutes, the Heat should be even better than they were. And that’s terrifying for the rest of the league. We Are, Indeed, All Witnesses… Lampooned by the critics following his assertion that the Big Three in Miami would bring “not four, not five, not six…” championships, LeBron James is silencing the naysayers as he delivers on his bold promises. With two titles down and an even stronger team returning in 2013-14 in search of a three-peat, the King may have been spot on. But Wait a Minute… Adding urgency to the Miami Heat campaign in 2013-14 is the fact that LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh are all free agents after this season. Whether any or all of those superstars stay in South Beach next summer are questions that will loom large as the season wears on... But as you’d expect from a team on the brink of history (only the Celtics, Bulls and Lakers have won three or more championships in a row), those questions will have to wait. In an attempt to take down the champs, some of the Heat’s Eastern Conference rivals stepped it up in the off-season. The Brooklyn Nets brought in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry and figure to be a significant obstacle alongside the Indiana Pacers and the Chicago Bulls with a healthy Derrick Rose.
