Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, Marc Anthony has accomplished so much in his 25-year career, there’s no way he’d be able to fit all of his titles—actor, record producer, singer/songwriter, fashion designer, TV producer—on to one business card. However, if he were to topline any of his accomplishments, he might lead with the fact that the Latin pop singer is the top-selling tropical salsa artist of all time. No big deal.
After releasing a few crossover albums, in 2013, Anthony released 3.0, which marked his first original salsa album in over 10 years, featuring the song “Vivir Mi Vida” (“Live My Life”). “With its big, anthemic backing chorus introducing it, before the claves and piano and percussion kick in, it's obvious this is a big, ‘baila baila number, and not what the singer usually delivers as salsa,” AllMusic said of the hit in its album review. “Its melodic hook is unmistakable, the interplay between the vocal and horns in the verses with the organic rhythms percolating right up front, and that enormous chorus makes it irresistible. And the salsa groove, once established, never lets go.” Produced by RedOne, known for his work with Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, the single was a hit with both Spanish and English-speaking audiences, earning the crooner 15 Latin Billboard Award nominations and ultimately selling over a million copies and contributing to 3.0 going platinum, as well.
