When the Independent Shakespeare Company put on their first Free Shakespeare Festival in 2004, it was attended by 14 people. Since then, ISC has gained a reputation for their original, irreverent and extremely entertaining productions of the Bard's masterpieces, and in recent years the festival has drawn upwards of 40,000 spectators. The 2016 Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival is on track to be the biggest and best yet, featuring productions of The Tempest and a rock 'n' roll-infused take on Richard III. Though this is a free event, this offer gets you prime real estate in a reserved area with a superb view of all the action onstage. Bring a picnic and a blanket (no chairs, please) to enjoy a beautiful evening in Griffith Park.
