A Brief History of the Golden State Warriors
Founded in Philadelphia in 1946, the Golden State Warriors own three championship trophies (one in the NBA-predecessor BAA) and have been home to some of the most enduring icons in league history in Wilt Chamberlain, Rick Barry and Chris Mullin.
Moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962, the Warriors have played in Oracle Arena in Oakland since 1966. After enormous success in the 1960s and 1970s (including the 1975 NBA title) and then a gripping run known as the “Run TMC” Era in the late 80s and early 90s, Golden State has qualified for the post-season just twice since the 1994-95 season. But with an aggressive new ownership group, a hard-nosed coach and a roster that features Steph Curry, David Lee, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala, the Warriors are a legitimate contender in 2013-14.
Ready for a Deep Run in the Playoffs
After giving the San Antonio Spurs everything they could handle in the Conference Semifinals last year, the Warriors went out and shocked the league by signing Andre Iguodala to a multi-year deal. With enormous talent and versatility, Iguodala gives Golden State a fiery leader and a lockdown defender on one of the league’s highest scoring teams.
As Curry and Thompson continue to shine on the perimeter, if David Lee and Andrew Bogut can stay healthy down low, the Warriors should cruise into the playoffs. And once they get there, with an unbelievable home court edge and a coach quickly emerging as one of the league’s best, there’s no telling what they might accomplish. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be LOUD. Get out to Oracle Arena with guaranteed savings from ScoreBig.com and soak in the best atmosphere in basketball.
