Prior to 2007, Glen Hansard had received numerous accolades as the singer/guitarist for The Frames—a Dublin-based indie-rock band that released six albums and opened for fellow Irish folk singer Damien Rice—but once audiences started flocking to movie theaters to see the Once, a musical about a street singer who falls in love with a flower seller, Glen’s profile received an immediate (and exponential) boost. Not only did Hansard star in the film, but he also sang and wrote most of the original songs on the movie’s soundtrack.
