Eva Perón’s image fascinated him, as did a radio show about her, which he caught the tail end of many years later. Rice did intensive research on Perón, including travelling to Buenos Aires to investigate the many aspects of her life. The famous lyricist even named his first daughter after Eva. Rice approached Andrew Lloyd Webber with a musical concept based on Perón’s life, and Webber was immediately inspired by the idea of composing tangos, pasos dobles, and Latin stylings.
