The Colorado Rapids were one of the 10 charter clubs in Major League Soccer in 1996. While the team finished last in their conference in that inaugural campaign, things quickly turned around for the Rapids. In the following season, the team advanced all the way to the MLS Cup finals where they were defeated by D.C. United.
While the Colorado Rapids have not been as consistently successful as teams like D.C. United or the L.A. Galaxy, in addition to the 1997 second place finish, they were runners-up in the US Open Cup in 1999 before their passionate fan base was rewarded in 2010 when the team took home their first MLS Cup.
Mile High Reload
Led by head coach Oscar Pareja, the Colorado Rapids entered the 2013 season with high expectations. Though they’ve been struck by a string of injuries, with a dynamic young core built around US National Team star Edson Buddle, ageless vet Pablo Mastroeni and Ecuadorian National teamer Diego Calderón, the sky is the limit in 2013.
Playing their home games at Dick’s Sporting Goods Stadium, the Rapids enjoy one of the best home field edges in MLS. The facility has a European-style supporters’ terrace in the north end of the stadium that adds to the energetic mile-high environment.
