The Bobcats are on the way up. Here's why.
A Brief History
With UNC Duke and NC State just a couple of hours away, North Carolina is home to some of the most knowledgeable and passionate basketball fans on the planet. First awarded an NBA franchise in 1988, the Hornets (now the Pelicans) were a huge hit during their glory days in North Carolina.
After the Hornets left, BET mogul Robert L. Johnson won the right to build a new franchise in an extremely competitive bidding process. Entering the league prior to the 2004-05 season, the Bobcats have struggled to gain a foothold in a deep and competitive Eastern Conference. With just one playoff appearance in franchise history, Bobcat fans have waited patiently for their team to grow. And at last, the Michael Jordan-owned franchise is showing signs of things to come.
The New-Look Bobcats
At just 28 years old and entering the prime of his career, Al Jefferson becomes one of the veterans on a Bobcats roster packed with young talent. Locking up Gerald Henderson in the off-season was a huge, stabilizing move that should pay dividends for years to come. In Kemba Walker, Michael Kidd-Gilchrest and rookie Cody Zeller, the Bobcats have some of the most exciting prospects in the NBA.
