The Plot
How far will an aspiring playwright go to get his show on Broadway? In Bullets Over Broadway, the protagonist, played by Zach Braff, cuts a deal with the mob to ensure his life’s work gets a chance. The deal is simple – cast a mobster’s beautiful girlfriend as the lead. Sounds like a fair deal… until the hopeful playwright meets the hopeless actress.
The Cast
Zach Braff, of Scrubs fame, makes his Broadway debut in Bullets Over Broadway. The former television star seemed to fit right in on the big stage, netting review after review applauding his transition to Broadway. Braff is paired with the stunning Marin Mazzie. Unlike Braff, Mazzie is a Broadway veteran with a Tony Nomination under her belt. The talent behind the curtain is just as rich, with legends Woody Allen and Susan Stroman teaming up. Critics are raving over Stroman’s choreography, calling it her best work since Mel Brooks’ The Producers.
The Venue
Bullets Over Broadway is now playing at the St. James Theater. Located on 246 W 44th Street, St. James has been one of the premiere theaters in Broadway since opening way back in 1927. It’s definitely one of the larger spots to catch a show, seating a maximum capacity of 1,710. St. James Theater was home to The Producers, one of the longest running shows in the history of the theater.
