Now a successful solo artist, Boz Scaggs originally rose to musical fame by playing guitar in the Steve Miller Band. Scaggs and Miller first met—and played music together—when they both attended a private boarding school in Texas. The two paired up again during college at University of Wisconsin, where they played in multiple bands together before Miller formed his own namesake group and Scaggs played guitar on albums like Children Of The Future and Sailor. During his tenure with the classic-rock singer, Scaggs also released his second self-titled solo album, which was actually produced by Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. (Speaking of Rolling Stone, Scaggs’ son, Austin, interned at the magazine in 1999 and is now a contributing editor.) In the early ’70s, Boz Scaggs broke away from Miller permanently to concentrate on his solo career, which reached new heights with the success of jazz-rock songs like “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle,” both off the 1976 multi-platinum album Silk Degrees. The blue-eyed soul crooner continued his run at the top of the adult-contemporary charts with “Look What You’ve Done To Me,” which Scaggs co-wrote with famed producer/composer David Foster for the movie Urban Cowboy. Though he took a break from recording in the late ’80s/early ’90s, Scaggs has been putting out albums consistently ever since 1994.
