Though it has yet to be scientifically proven, Boston’s smash hit “More Than A Feeling” might just be the best song to perform during karaoke or while playing Rock Band on your Play Station 3.
“When I wrote ‘More than a Feeling’ I wasn’t sure if anyone would like it. I didn’t think it was a special song,” guitarist Tom Scholtz admitted to Rockcellar Magazine. “It was just a combination of a couple of guitar licks. I thought I was probably crazy for wasting the time and money to try and make a recording of it but I sort of felt that way about everything that I was working on.” Despite Scholz’s initial trepidation, “More Than A Feeling” has all the elements of a infectious classic-rock anthem, as further explained by Guitar World: “Few can resist indulging in fits of fleet-fingered air guitar and a spirited falsetto sing-along.” Can’t argue with that, can you?
However, Boston is more than just a one-hit wonder—even if that one particular hit was named the 39th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. The band is just as notable for penning other fist-pumping rockers, like “Smokin’,” “Peace Of Mind” and “Foreplay/Long Time.” Sadly, lead singer and founding member Brad Delp took his own life in 2007, leaving Boston’s fate in the balance. However, the band decided to keep the music alive and soldier on with a new lineup that continues to tour—and release new music—today. Experience why seeing Boston is more than just a feeling.
