After 13 seasons, American Idol has transcended reality-TV status to become one of the country’s most important sources of new music discovery. Not sure about you, but we don’t want to live in a world where the talents of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson would’ve gone unrecognized. Thank goodness for creator Simon Cowell and the rotating roster of other AI judges who’ve provided these vocal upstarts undying support, mentorship and some entertaining creative criticism over the years.
The show’s most recent season crowned Caleb Johnson, a hard rock and heavy metal singer, the winner. His newest single, “As Long As You Love Me,” is a taste of what fans can expect from Johnson’s self-titled debut album, which is slated for release in August 2014. “I’m probably the antithesis of what American Idols have been,” Caleb said to reporters in the press room following his win. “American Idol [has] always been a pop show and I’m [singing] Rock ‘n roll…I sang Rush and Led Zeppelin and Aretha Franklin and Adele so what is so crazy is I think this is the first season that a rock ‘n roll singer has won. Not just pop rock but actual rock ‘n roll.”
Until his debut, Johnson can currently been seen alongside fellow American Idol Top Ten Finalists like Alex Preston, Jessica Meuse, Sam Woolf and runner-up Jena Irene on the show’s Live tour. Experience the show with ScoreBig, where you’ll save on every American Idol ticket, every day.
