Joining the league as an expansion team in 1976 along with the Tampa Bay Bucs, the Seattle Seahawks enjoy, arguably, the best home field advantage in the NFL. With a beautiful stadium, preposterously good culinary options and one of the most exciting young teams in the league, a trip to CenturyLink Field for a Seahawks game is one of the best sporting experiences on the planet.
The Rise of the Seahawks
After a nine-year tenure under Hall of Fame head coach Mike Holmgren that included six playoff appearances and the team's first Super Bowl appearance in 2005, the reigns were handed over to former USC coach Pete Carroll in 2009. In his first year, in spite of a losing record, Seattle won the NFC West division and upset the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the playoffs.
As recently as 2010, the NFC West was clearly the worst conference in the NFL. But with the Seahawks and rival San Francisco 49ers among the favorites to win the NFC crown and the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams both on the rise, the conference may now be the toughest in the league.
With Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch running over defensive linemen and 2nd Year quarterback Russell Wilson emerging as one of the brightest stars in the NFL, the Seahawks already had a lot to work with on offense. But the ever-aggressive Carroll made a gutsy trade by dealing his 1st round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings in return for Percy Harvin, one of the most electrifying playmakers of his generation. Now loaded up on both sides of the ball, the Seahawks are ready to make a run for their first ever Lombardi trophy.
