The pentathlon is a cornerstone Olympic event that traces its history all the way back to the Olympic Games of Ancient Greece. Consisting of fencing, a 200-meter freestyle swim, horse jumping, pistol shooting and a 3200 meter cross-country run, modern pentathlon is intended to simulate the experience of being a cavalry officer stuck behind enemy lines, riding, running, swashbuckling, shooting and swimming his way to freedom. The 2017 Modern Pentathlon World Cup is coming to the Fairplex in Pomona, bringing together 140 of the best pentathletes from 138 countries to compete in this exciting and multifaceted competition.
