Miranda Lambert is a Texas-born country music artist who got her big break when she finished third on the first season of the reality television talent competition Nashville Star. Her father wrote and performed country music throughout the early years of her life, and at 10 years old, she attended her first Garth Brooks concert, which inspired her to begin a country music career of her own. Lambert’s first performance was at a talent competition later that year, but it wasn’t until she was 16 years old that she learned to play the guitar and began to write her own songs.
In 2001, Lambert recorded and promoted a CD that was truly a family effort—her father funded it, her mother drove to radio stations to promote it, and her brother created a website to sell it. It was after two years of promotion and touring around Texas that Lambert earned a spot on Nashville Star, signed a recording contract with Sony Nashville, and launched her career on the national stage.
Her first album, Kerosene, debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and in 2005, the Academy of Country Music honored her with the Cover Girl Fresh Face of Country Music award. Miranda Lambert is dedicated to staying true to her Texas roots as an artist and maintaining the authentic country sound of her music.
