The Cincinnati Reds franchise was established as an independent club in 1881 (although they trace their history back to the Red Stocking in 1869 and claim the title of being the first professional baseball team in the US) and played in the now-defunct American Association before entering the MLB's National League in 1890.
A Wonderful History
In their long history, the Reds have claimed 9 National League pennants and 10 Central Division titles. They have also won the World Series five times (in 1919, 1940, 1975, 1976, and 1990), featuring some of the greatest players that baseball has ever known: Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and Pete Rose, all of whom were members of the 1975 and 1976 World Series champion teams that have since been nicknamed The Big Red Machine.
In recent years, the team has been experiencing a resurgence of talent, winning the National League Central Division titles in both 2010 and 2012. With things looking up, now is the perfect time to make your way out to Great American Ball Park to catch the Reds in action.
