Founded in Seattle, Washington, as the Seattle Pilots in 1969, the Milwaukee Brewers franchise only played one season in Seattle (in which they finished last in the West) before being acquired in bankruptcy court, renamed, and moved to their current home in Wisconsin in 1970. Following this rocky start, the Brewers (who got their name from the region's association with the brewing industry) had a hard time battling their way up from the bottom of the division, and it would not be until 1978 that they would put together a winning season. Never Losing Hope After recording consecutive winning seasons in 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981, the Brewers finally came out on top in the American League East Division and won the American League Pennant. Unfortunately, in what has been the franchise's only World Series appearance to date, the Brewers lost the championship series to the St. Louis Cardinals by a final count of four games to three. The Brewers saw the postseason again in 2008 and 2011. That year, they found themselves two games from winning the National League Championship Series and advancing to their first World Series since 1982.
